Boy or Girl?

So, Pumpkin plants have both male and female blossoms. You need to be able to tell the difference if you want to help pollinate your plant. Yes, one plant can pollinate itself. (By the way, I mistakenly removed two very plump female blossoms from Bubba. I thought I was helping the plant grow before setting fruit so it could better support a larger pumpkin. Don't make the same mistake! I am hoping Bubba will make more girl blooms soon!)

Here is a handy photo to help you ID your blooms in case you are planning on pollinating them. Or, you can just let the bees do their thing but if you dont have any bees flying around your terrace or deck I'd give your plant a bit of help. Then see earlier post about how to go about pollinating.
